This year ATMA has teamed up with Indian NGO, the Ladakh Institute of Prevention, headed by Dr. T. Norboo, to fund 10 mobile field hospitals that will provide vital treatment, screening and education to people in the most rural and remote regions of Ladakh in the Indian Himalayas.
Our target for this year is $17,000 CAD and we need your help to reach it! If you are interested in making a small donation please visit www.athousandmetresabove.org/donate or click the donate tab in the far right of this page. As always, remember that >99% of what you donate goes directly towards the project in question as we are able to operate with incredibly low overheads. Please bear with us in the interim as were still making minor adjustments here and there. We hope you like the changes! ATMA Team Dear Friends,
On Oct 30, 2015, the ATMA Research Team presented their findings regarding access to healthcare in remote districts of eastern Himachal Pradesh at the 7th Annual Leaders in Medicine Symposium at the University of Calgary. The presentation, which can be downloaded via the link below, was well received and won the award for best research presentation at the symposium! Research Presentation: ATMA Access to Health LIM 2015 Poster We are excited that what started out as just an idea has been able to expand into a thorough research study with important implications for healthcare professionals, health NGO's and policy makers in the region. Moving forward we are planning on continuing with the analysis of this data and incorporating it with more data regarding geographic barriers to health services gathered from the Ladakh Heart Foundation Hospital in Leh, Jammu & Kashmir. Together, we hope that this information will provide local NGO's with useful data with which to determine where the greatest need for health services is in eastern Himachal Pradesh. This applied, evidence-based research model allows us to ensure that the work we do is being utilized to full effect. Finally, we'd like to thank all members who dedicated their time to making this project a reality and, of course, to the participants who were involved in this study. Regards, ATMA Team |
