In our most recent deployment in July 2026, we hosted an ATMA-LIP Mobile Medical Clinic in the Changthang region of Ladakh, India.
This is the highest altitude region of Ladakh, where most communities live in high-altitude plains well over 4,000 metres above sea level. Most of the people here are nomads who migrate with their pashmina goats—a demanding livelihood in a beautiful yet challenging high-altitude desert environment. To bring care directly to these communities, we set up our mobile camps right alongside their settlements. Operating at this altitude meant managing assessments without running water or a reliable power grid, but with portable generators and whatever solar power we could capture during the day, we found a way! We were fortunate to see hundreds of patients over the course of these camps. As with all ATMA-LIP clinics, patients received comprehensive medical assessments, diagnostic testing, and necessary medications free of charge. Living on the edge of our planet is a constant reminder of how fragile life can be, and many of these individuals would not have received care otherwise. We are proud to continue working with Dr. Norboo and the Ladakh Institute of Prevention team to provide high-quality primary care and public health work in some of the most remote parts of the Himalayas.
