aTma-lip CHANGTHANG medical campS
In May 2018 ATMA President Indy Sahota joined Dr. Norboo of the Ladakh Institute of Prevention on a medical camp in the remote villages of Merak, Mann and Spangmik in the Changthang Valley. The Changthang Valley is an important ancient trading route along the lower routes of the Silk Road that traverses the western Tibetan Plateau and the eastern fringe of Ladakh. These camps provided comprehensive diagnostic tests, physician assessments and medications for free to all patients who attended. In all we saw over 100 people during our camp. A smaller camp was also held in the village of Likir to the west of Leh along the Leh-Kargil Highway.
We at ATMA have partnered with the Ladakh Institute of Prevention to fund these vital mobile medical camps. They provide the only medical care many of these people will receive as government infrastructure is limited and accessibility, given the mountainous terrain, is challenging making the drive to the district capital near impossible. In the winter road closures mean these villages are isolated from the rest of the world for up to 8 months. It's a desperate and challenging life for the Ladakhi people. We're proud to support Dr. Norboo and his team in providing basic healthcare to all people in this part of the Himalayas. Please consider helping us in this mission by making a small donation.
