altitude sickness at hemkund sahib |
Altitude sickness (also known as acute mountain sickness or mountain sickness) is a condition that affects people who travel to high altitude. Due to its location, travellers to Hemkund Sahib (a popular Sikh pilgrimage site in the Himalayas) are at increased risk of developing altitude sickness. The ATMA research team recently found that approximately 50,000 people are at risk of developing altitude sickness each year at Hemkund Sahib. ATMA is committed to raising awareness about the dangers of this potentially life-threatening condition.
