In July 2022 ATMA teamed up with our regional partner, the Ladakh Institute of Prevention (LIP), to fund vital mobile medical camps for one of the most isolated regions of Ladakh.
The adjacent picture is of Dr. Tsering Norboo, head of LIP, and one of the most respected physician-scientists in Ladakh. Despite officially retiring from clinical practice many years ago he still operates a free clinic for people who otherwise couldn't afford medical care. Over the years we at ATMA have been proud to partner with LIP to provide vital mobile health clinics to some of the most remote parts of the region and this year we funded a camp in perhaps the most remote region of Ladakh - the Zanskar Valley. For this camp, medical equipment, medications and personnel were transported through the high mountain passes south of Kargil to Padum, the administrative centre of the Zanskar. Camps were conducted over a 7 day period, running at least 12 hours per day, and stationed to maximize attendance by the local communities. Medical assessments, diagnostics and medications were made freely available to all. In total we were able to help over 220 people in this region, providing comprehensive medical and preventative healthcare that they otherwise would not have received. This camp, however, could only be conducted with your generous support. Thanks to you, we were able to raise over $6,000 which enabled the team to provide free, comprehensive care to those most in need in the region. As always, you can support our programs by donating below. |
