ATMA President joining Ladakh Medical Camp!

Read Now

Picture
In May 2018 ATMA President, Indy Sahota, will be joining Dr. Norboo and company on a medical camp in remote parts of Ladakh as part of his global health elective for medical residency. Being able to join the medical team will provide useful firsthand insight into the phenomenal work they do to provide healthcare to some of the most difficult to access places in the world.

At ATMA we're embarking on an ambitious project to fund the mobile medical camps for 3 years at a cost of $10,000 per year. This will allow the Ladakh Institute of Prevention (LIP) to hold 10 camps across the region each year. These camps provide some of the only healthcare that many people in Ladakh would receive and is a vital service for these families. But we need your help to make this a reality. Please consider donating to ATMA to help us help the people of Ladakh.

You can donate by clicking the donate tab above. Please note that the money you donate goes DIRECTLY to the medical camps where it ought to. We at ATMA are extremely judicious about the use of donations and keep <1% of donations for overhead costs. (NOTE: Indy will be paying his own expenses for this elective experience; none of the funding will come from ATMA donations).

We hope you'll consider helping us in our mission.

ATMA Research at Emergency Medicine Conference!

Read Now

From June 3-7, 2017, the ATMA Research Team presented their findings on a project entitled "Acute Mountain Sickness in the Himalayas: Preliminary Report", which is examining the prevalence of altitude sickness on popular trekking routes in the Himalayas. Our preliminary analysis shows that 70% of people who trek in Nepal experience altitude sickness with half of these being severe. Furthermore, people experience altitude sickness for approximately a quarter of the total duration of their trek!

Our project was well-received and we had good feedback from emergency medicine leaders in Canada. These findings were presented at the Canadian Association of Emergency Physicians (CAEP) Conference in beautiful Whistler, British Columbia!

Pub Night Success!

Read Now

We'd like to extend a big thank you to everyone that was able to come out and support us at the Pub Night event on March 30th! It was a success and even better than we could have hoped for. Almost 100 people made it to the event, selling out the Hemingway Pub! There was a raffle for some of the paintings we've picked up from around the world as well as an art sale which was well received. All of the proceeds from the pub night will go towards our ATMA-LIP Mobile Health Clinics project to fund 10 mobile health clinics per year in the north Indian district of Ladakh in the Indian Himalayas.

We've posted a few pictures and videos from the fundraiser below, be sure to check them out!

Acute Mountain Sickness Presentation

Read Now

The ATMA Research Team is excited to announce that a preliminary report from our study examining Acute Mountain Sickness rates in the Himalayas has been accepted for presentation at the prestigious Canadian Association of Emergency Physicians Conference in June 2017!

This conference is the largest emergency medicine conference in Canada and is an excellent venue to discuss the prevalence of high-altitude emergencies in the Himalayas. By raising more awareness regarding this issue we can decrease AMS rates in the region and help decrease needless suffering and death.
